This is the second High School to be closed in Kakamega after public health officers closed Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School on Monday following the death of two students.

Butere Boys High School in Kakamega County has been closed indefinitely over the fear of a Cholera Outbreak.

According to reports, most Students who have been hospitalized at various hospitals around Kakamega were vomiting.

The school administration called on parents to pick up their children from the institution while others were asked to attend to their children who are admitted.

Over 500 students from the institution developed an infection after reportedly consuming intoxicated food and contaminated water.

Western Region Director of Education Jared Obiero who confirmed the developments at the school affirmed that public health officials are investigating the incident to unravel the cause of the disease outbreak.

Kakamega Senator Boni Khwalwale who is a parent at the school toured the institution on Monday together with Woman rep Elsie Muhanda.

He noted that the tragedy is not new first in the school as two students died in 2022 from a similar incident.

"The incident just repeated itself. I'm here with the directorate of quality assurance, they investigated the incident last year and made their recommendations, but they were not implemented," Khalwale said.
