The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance has ejected nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege from her position as the National Assembly Minority Whip.

The coalition resolved to eject her after holding a Parliamentary group (PG) meeting at Stoni Athi in Machakos County on Thursday April 6.

The Raila Odinga-led coalition however did not name Chege’s replacement but reports indicate that Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda might take over the role.

This comes after Raila recommended the law to be changed to allow members of parliament who switch political sides after elections to be required to resign and seek a fresh mandate from the electorate.

“We recommend changes in the law that will instill party discipline by requiring MPs who cross party lines after the elections to seek a fresh mandate from the electorate and to allow parties to replace nominated MPs who cross party lines,” said Raila.

Sabina has in recent days been slammed by Azimio politicians over declaring her support for President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
