Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has revealed that he wanted to retire from politics after he handed over power to President William Ruto. 

Speaking on Monday, May 22 during the Jubilee Party National Delegates Conference (NDC) at Ngong Racecourse, Uhuru said he changed his mind over recent attempts to hijack the Jubilee Party.

“Fikra zangu zilikua zimeniambia nilegeze mambo ya siasa na niende nikashugulikie mambo mengine. Nilikua nafikiria ya kwamba siku ya kuitana National Delegates Conference ingekuwa siku ya delegates kuchagua viongozi wengine lakini wengine wameamua ya kwamba kazi itakua ya vitisho na kulazimisha.Siku ya leo nawaambia tafuta mtu mwingine sio Uhuru wa Kenyatta,” Uhuru stated.

His remarks come amid calls by Kenya kwanza politicians to have his pension withdrawn over engaging in politics.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on April 30 renewed the call to have the former president’s pension denied saying that he is going against the law by engaging in politics.

"Uhuru Kenyatta, this is free advice... The law says when you retire, after six months no politics. Please abide by the law," Wetangula said.

He added, "Juzi nimeona aibu sana kuona rais mstaafu anasukumwa na wananchi na anasema msiniguze. That is never expected of a retired president alafu anang'ang'ania chama.”
