Lucy Wanjiku Mbugua has been appointed as the Regional Director of the Eastern and Southern African Office at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in a statement on Tuesday, May 30 stated that the appointment was made by the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization in concurrence with the Kenyan government.

“Ministry of Roads and Transport is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Lucy Wanjiku Mbugua as the Regional Director, the Eastern and Southern African Office at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

“The appointment has been made by the Secretary General of the International Civil Aviation Organization in concurrence with the Kenyan State,” Murkomen stated.

Mbugua holds a Master’s in Aviation Strategy and has held leadership roles in the industry including CEO and Managing Director at the Kenya Airports Authority, Head of Marketing and Revenue Management at Kenya Airways, and served on Airports Council International (ACI) World Standing Committees of Economics and Environment.

Murkomen also noted that Mbugua's experience has helped to streamline aviation transport operations and molded sustainable operations for Kenya’s air transport.

“Ms. Mbugua’s appointment to such a reputable global aviation body is great news for the country’s growth and development in the aviation and transport sector,” Murkomen added.
