"We need to build 6,000 classrooms in Nairobi," President Ruto. 

President William Ruto has said four million children across the country will benefit from the school feeding programme.

Speaking during the launch of the Nairobi County school feeding programme at Roysambu primary school grounds on Tuesday, June 20 the President said Sh 5 billion would be used to implement the programme.

The President noted that the Government would increase the number of children benefitting from the programmme from the current 1.6 million to four million.

"We must eliminate shame of hunger in our country. We will be deliberate and focused in ensuring successful implementation of school feeding programme, " President Ruto stated.

He added, "The greatest indignity is for our children to go to school and fast because of lack of food."

President Ruto, at the same time, mentioned that the national government would construct 3,500 classrooms in Nairobi County at a cost of Sh 3 billion.

He expressed concern that many children were out of school in Nairobi due to a lack of enough infrastructural development in schools.

President Ruto urged Nairobi MPs to meet and explore ways of improving school infrastructure in the county.

"We need to build 6,000 classrooms in Nairobi. The national government will construct 3,500 classrooms at a cost of Sh 3 billion in the next three years. 

"As leaders, we must work together in solving problems facing our people. That's the work we were assigned to do by the electorate," President Ruto stated. 

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu note that his ministry would work closely with other stakeholders in ensuring successful implementation of the school feeding program.

The Education CS disclosed that Sh2 billion was being used to fund school feeding programmes in arid and semi arid areas.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja praised the national government for its commitment to ensure children from disadvantaged families and areas benefit from the program.

"The school feeding program will go a long way in promoting education in the county," he said.
