“I am an honest man, I don’t want to sit here and lie to you that we have jobs for you these jobs we are going to create together with you."

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has told university graduates that the government does not have job opportunities for them.

Speaking on Friday, June 23 during the 40th graduation ceremony of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), the Deputy President stated the graduates will get jobs in the affordable housing projects.

“I am an honest man, I don’t want to sit here and lie to you that we have jobs for you these jobs we are going to create together with you. This is a university of science and technology. Our members of the National Assembly very aggressively for two nights and passed the Finance Bill to create the Housing Fund to construct 200,000 houses every year,” said Gachagua.

He added, “Among those 200,000 houses, from this university, there will be architects, quantity surveyors, building engineers, clerks of works, electricians, plumbers and you'll have an opportunity to earn a living.”

The second in command also encouraged the graduates to have a positive mind saying they are better placed than their parents having managed to complete university.

“Most of your parents were not employed by anybody, but through hard work, creative and innovative thinking they have seen you through to university, it is possible that yourself now with a degree you are ten times better than your parents," Gachagua stated.
