Five pupils from Ebenezer Academy in Busia County and a bus driver on Saturday, June 24 evening lost their lives after the school bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident.

The accident occurred along the Webuye-Eldoret Highway near Kaburengo in Bungoma County.

According to a police report the accident occurred after a truck headed towards Webuye from Eldoret lost control near Chimoi area and rammed into the Ebenezer Academy school bus from the side causing it to tip over.

Due to the impact of the accident, four girls and one boy died on the spot alongside the bus driver.

Eight pupils and three teachers were injured in the accident. The injured were taken to the Webuye County Hospital to receive medical care.

The driver of the truck, which rammed into the school bus escaped from the scene with the police searching for him.

KANU chairperson Gideon Moi has condoled the families of the Ebenezer Academy pupils who died in the accident.

“I convey my deepest condolences to the families and friends of the pupils of Ebenezer Academy whose precious lives have been cut short in a tragic road accident this evening in Kaburengu, along the Eldoret-Webuye Road,” said Moi.

The former Baringo Senator added that the accident is a reminder of the dire need to improve road safety across the country.
