President Ruto on Friday claimed that Ksh 15 billion was lost due to the Huduma Number initiative.

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando Wa Kabando has told President William Ruto to stop lamenting about the Huduma Number project.

Kabando in a tweet on Friday, June 30 asked the President to focus on recovering the lost funds instead of lamenting.

"True, you were isolated but Raila, Kalonzo, and your CS Mudavadi did the "huduma" errand. Don't lament; recover the loot. Sir, you aren't helpless,” Kabando stated.

President Ruto on Friday termed the project, which was pushed during the previous administration a complete fraud.

Speaking during the unveiling of digital government services at KICC, Nairobi, Ruto stated that his government would produce a new digital id within the next 90 days.

“In the next 90 days, we must have a digital id. That digital id has been traumatic for Kenya. We are all aware that there was another phantom project called huduma number, that huduma number was a complete fraud because we lost almost Ksh 15 billion and got very little out of it,” said Ruto.

The Head of State asked government officials to demonstrate to Kenyans that it is possible for a digital id to be produced without spending Ksh 15 billion.

“We must demonstrate in the next 90 days that it is possible for us to have a digital id without spending Ksh 15 billion and without defrauding the people of Kenya. And those who did that should be ashamed of themselves,” he added.
