Nimrod Mbai on Wednesday morning presented himself at the Kitengela police station together with his lawyer.

Kenya Power Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joseph Siror has condemned recent attacks on the company’s staff while on duty.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, July 5, Siror stated that Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai’s incident is the latest among many attacks on Kenya Power employees while on duty.

“We regrettably note an emerging trend of violent attacks against our staff. The latest of these incidents happened on Monday, July 3, in Kitengela where our staff were attacked by the Kitui East Member of Parliament, Nimrod Mbai.

“In the recent past, we have heard a number of cases; there was one in Utange where one wielded a panga against a staff who was undertaking his duties, there was also a case in Nyandarua where a member of staff and the CBM were assaulted while doing a disconnection because payments had not been done,” Siror stated.

The Kenya Power CEO also noted that the company has taken up the issues with relevant authorities adding that the company prioritizes the welfare of its staff.

“We have taken up this issue with the relevant authorities and the matter is now before the courts. As an entity that prioritizes the welfare of its staff and the public, we condemn this incident and we wish to categorically state that we do not condone any form of violence, at least not on our staff while on official duty,” he added.

Mbai on Wednesday morning presented himself at the Kitengela police station together with his lawyer to write a statement following the assault of the KPLC engineer.

The UDA MP has however been freed but his gun was confiscated.
