Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi on Friday said the Azimio coalition had notified the police of Wednesday's protest.

The country is set to witness a showdown after the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome outlawed the Azimio protests  Set for today, Wednesday, July 12. 

Koome in a Statement said the protests will not be happening as the Azimio team had not notified the police of plans to hold a gathering for them to provide security.

The law requires one to notify police 48 hours before holding peaceful protests anywhere in the country. 

Police are required to provide security and ensure law and order are maintained. 

However, despite previous notifications issued by Police, Azimio has often lamented that their protests have been banned.

Koome however said police have no option but to disperse any gathering that will seek to hold a demonstration.

Top Azimio leaders are expected to lead protests.

"No such demonstrations/gatherings, or protests will be allowed tomorrow (Wednesday) since no such notification has been presented to any police station. All lawful means will be used to disperse such demonstrations," Koome said.

On Friday, the Minority leader at the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi said they had notified the police of Wednesday's protests.

"We have simply notified you (police) that come next Wednesday the whole country will come to a standstill as Kenyans of all walks of life participate in massive demonstrations in every width and breadth of the country," he said at a press conference after the Saba Saba rally at Kamukunji grounds.

Also present at the press conference were Azimio leaders Raila Odinga, Former Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria among others. 

But even after Koome banned the protests, Azimio tweeted to re-affirm that they will still be taking to the streets.

"Game, set and match for #MaandamanoWednesday. Vroooom!!!" the party tweeted on Tuesday.
