Edwin Sifuna has revealed when the Azimio coalition will end protests. 

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has stated that the Azimio la Umoja coalition will not relent in the nationwide anti-government protests. 

Speaking on Wednesday, July 19 while leading demos in Kibra, Sifuna said the protests will only end when the price of maize flour goes down.

“The demonstrations will only end the day the price of maize flour goes down,” Sifuna stated.

The Nairobi Senator also said the Azimio protests are peaceful and the security agencies should not interfere with them.

His remarks come as the opposition kicked off the three-day anti-government protests nationwide. The demos however picked up in a somewhat slow mode as most parts country witnessed a rather peaceful situation.

The Raila Odinga-led coalition had listed Kamukunji, Jacaranda, and Joseph Kangethe grounds as meeting points ahead of the protests. However, the police were deployed at the three points and dispersed crowds that had started gathering.

Speaking on Wednesday in Kericho, President William Ruto stated that the Azimio protests cannot solve the high cost of living in the country.

"If someone puts a cooking pot on their head, will the price of flour decrease? If someone doesn't protest and goes to the farm to cultivate maize, the price of flour will come down,” said Ruto.

The Head of State at the same time directed the security agencies to be firm on protestors who cause violence and destroy property.

“The police must make sure that there firm on criminals, gangs and anarchists and all the people who want to cause mayhem in our country. It is our right as the citizenry to be peaceful.
