His lawyer Njiru said they are yet to know where he was taken.


Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was on Wednesday evening arrested by people believed to be police officers.

His Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru confirmed the arrest and said the client was taken from his Kiserian home in Ngong and taken to an unknown place. 

Reports also indicate that his brother and personal assistant was equally arrested.

At the time of the arrest, the former Mungiki leader was at his father's house when police stormed with unmarked cards and arrested him around 8pm.

According to his lawyer:

"The team said they wanted to question him over ongoing anti-government protests in the country."

His lawyer Njiru said they are yet to know where he was taken.

Njenga has been a close associate of Azimio's leadership among the ODM Leader Raila Odinga.

His arrest comes even after over nine Azimio leaders were arrested in connection to Wednesday's protests.

Among those arrested are Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Raila Odinga's spokesperson Dennis Onyango, Ken Onyango, Teddy Mwambire and Wilfred Odallo.

Others arrested are Redson Onyango, Eric Otieno, Anthony Otysula and  Raila's private bodyguard Maurice Ogeta.

Babu Owino's wife in a video on Wednesday said the husband is being held at Wanguru Police Station in Kirinyaga County.

Other Azimio leader associates are being held at an undisclosed location.
