The High Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja.

The High Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja after she skipped the hearing of a Ksh 14 billion tax evasion case.

Milimani Court Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu while issuing the order on Wednesday, July 26 said the Nakuru Senator knew the case was coming up but she failed to attend.

“The accused person knew that the matter was listed for hearing and failed to show up. I hereby discharge the two witnesses in court today and proceed to issues a warrant of arrest against the accused person,” Kimilu ruled.

Karanja and her husband Joseph Karanja were in 2019 arrested over the matter by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives. She was released on a Ksh five million bond while her husband was released on a Ksh 1 million bond.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions however withdrew charges against the Nakuru Senator’s husband due to his health condition.

Karanja on June 13 stepped down as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Keroche Breweries Limited and was replaced by Potas Anaya who previously served as Keroche’s Chief Financial Officer.

In her farewell speech, Karanja said leaving the organization after twenty-five years at the helm was an extraordinary journey she could not describe using words.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude for making the past twenty-five years an extraordinary journey that words cannot adequately capture. I believe I leave the organization well positioned to meet the opportunity and challenges for a national and international leader in the Kenyan and African beverages industry,” the UDA Senator stated.
