"We have heard that you are going to have talks, well and good," DP Gachagua.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has for the first time responded after President William Ruto disclosed that he held talks with Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Sunday, July 31 at Alliance High School, Gachagua said that 'it was well and good', in response to the talks but said Azimio leaders would not get their security back until after three months.

"We have heard that you are going to have talks, well and good but since I have not seen a commitment that you (Azimio) denounce violence and give Kenyans undertaking that you will not go back to the streets those policemen will stay on standby for now.

"If in the next three months, you are of good behaviour, there is no demonstration and chaos on the streets, we shall return the police to guard you," he affirmed.

This comes barely a day after President William Ruto disclosed that he held discussions with the former Prime Minister in Mombasa County.

The Head of State discloses that they had agreed with Odinga that no more chaos and violence would be witnessed in the country.

At the same time, in a statement read by Peter Munya on behalf of Azimio leaders,  the Odinga-led coalition said the meeting was facilitated by former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to the opposition, the meeting was to prepare for discussions between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio.

“We sanctioned a meeting between our leadership and that of Kenya Kwanza, under the facilitation of H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo. This initial meeting was to prepare ground for honest discussions of the issues we have been raising and those that Kenya Kwanza feels like raising. The meeting was therefore a talk about envisaged talks,” Peter Munya announced.
