“Students who require funding must make formal application through Higher Education Financing portal." CS Machogu.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Monday July 31 launched a new university and TVET funding website, which is under the university funding model.

The new Higher Education Financing Portal will enable students to apply for scholarships, loans, and bursaries from the government.

“Since the Presidential directive on 3rd May 2023 on the roll out the New Funding Model, the Government has developed and completed the Higher Education Financing Portal, to receive applications for both Scholarships, Loans and Bursaries for University and TVET students,” said Machogu.

The Education CS noted that students who require funding must make a formal application in the Higher Education Financing portal.

“Students who require funding must make formal application through Higher Education Financing portal, accessible at www.hef.co.ke,” Machogu stated.

He however mentioned that continuing students will not be affected by the new university and TVET financing model.

“The continuing students will not be affected by this funding model and will continue to receive their funding based on the Government’s existing model,” the Education CS added.

Machogu further pointed out that 45000 university students and 42,000 TVET students from poor households who sat for their KCSE in 2022 will receive fully funded scholarship from the government in the new model.

“Out of the 2022 KCSE graduates, over 45,000 university students and 42,000 TVET students categorised as vulnerable and extremely needy, will be fully funded with the Government Scholarship and Loans. The categorisation will be realised through a reliable scientific method Means Testing Instrument, used to determine the student’s level of financial needs, to ensure they are supported adequately,” Machogu noted.
