The OCS had allegedly demanded Sh100,000 bribe to accord the complainant 'business protection'.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) has ordered Kinangop North Sub-County Police Commander to arrest the Kinangop Police Station OCS Chief Inspector Walter Obegi after he allegedly escaped the commission's dragnet on Tuesday.

In a letter dated August 9, 2023, and copied to the Central Regional Police Commander and Nyandarua County Police Commander, EACC has required the Kinangop Police Commander to avail the OCS before it at the Central Regional Offices in Nyeri on Monday, August 14, 2023, without fail.

The Kinagop OCS, who was under arrest alongside his junior PC Donald Obare Onyango, fled from EACC detectives who were pursuing him for demanding a bribe of Sh100,000 from a local businessman at Engineer Town in Nyandarua County.

The bribe was a condition for allowing the trader to enjoy ’business protection’ and run his businesses in the town ‘smoothly’ and ‘uninterruptedly.’

Although th OCS escaped and went into hiding, EACC arrested Police Officer Donald Obare Onyango, who had allegedly received from the complainant Sh60,000 on behalf of the OCS, being part of the demanded bribe of Kes.100,000.

The OCS had allegedly earlier received an initial deposit of Sh30,000 from the trader.

EACC arrested Police Officer Donald Obare Onyango.

EACC claims that the arrested police officer Donald Obare Onyango had been instructed and sent by the OCS to collect the money on his behalf.

The arrested suspect was booked at Njambini Police Station where he spent the night pending processing and further action.
