"They seem to have been on my trail for quite some time and had observed my movements."

Mt Elgon MP Fred Kapondi, who was elected on the United Democratic Alliance party ticket, has claimed that there was an attempt on his life Thursday evening.

The MP in a press address in Bungoma Town on Thursday evening disclosed that he had just left a bank where he withdrew some money and had parked his car at Khetias supermarket in Bungoma for shopping.

"What happened to me is shocking. They seem to have been on my trail for quite some time and had observed my movements."

The MP who was in the company of his wife says it is while in the Supermarket that the thugs shot at his car and walked away with his Sh200,000.

He believes the shooting targeted him. According to the MP, the attackers were more than one.

"If you asses how the bullet hit my car, you will realize that those people shot where I had seated because I'm the one who was driving the car."

Police sources however told Nairobi Leo that the incident was a normal robbery incident and not an assassination attempt as claimed by the MP.

The MP who was in the company of former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati said he has filed a police report on the matter and asked the DCI to expedite the probe.

"Police have taken over the matter. They have assessed the damage to my car and we are waiting for their verdict."

Wanagamti also condemned the incident and called for a probe to ascertain what happened as well as the intention of the shooting.
