The areas have been listed owing to the high risk of terrorism activities and kidnappings.

The Canadian government has issued a travel advisory to its citizens warning them against travelling in four counties in Kenya.

In an update posted on its website, the Canadian government listed Mandera, Lamu, Wajir and Garissa counties as some of the areas that are likely to experience terrorist activities and Kidnappings.

"Avoid all travel to Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu counties bordering Somalia, due to a risk of kidnapping and attacks," the update on its Website read in part.

The update came days after the Canadian government had asked its citizens not to travel in Turkana and Marsabit counties, within 110 km of the borders with South Sudan and Ethiopia.

The areas were listed due to terrorism, armed banditry and cross-border violence.

"There is an extreme threat of kidnapping, terrorism and cross-border violence in the northern counties of Marsabit and Turkana within 110 km of Ethiopia and South Sudan," he stated.

The North Eastern parts of the country have experienced a series of terrorist activities that have left a number of civilians and police officers dead.

The Coastal part of the country especially Lamu County has also been hard hit by terrorist activities and state attacks more often.

Recently, Interior CS Kithure Kidniki said 60 terrorists were neutralised in Lamu County.
