Raila Odinga reveals two former IEBC Commissioners who are hiding in US.

Azimio la Umoja leader has revealed that former Independent Electoral Commission (IEBC) commissioners Juliana Cherera and Irene Masit are in hiding.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 15 in Makueni County, the opposition chief noted that two former IEBC commissioners escaped to the United States of America (USA).

He claimed that Cherera and Masit fled Kenya after they received death threats.

"The 2022 general election referees said that dissented presidential results have all been dismissed. As we are speaking here, two of them, Madam Cherera and Madam Masit, are in the United States; they fled because they were being sought after and their lives were in danger,” Raila claimed.

Cherera and Masit were among the four former IEBC commissioners that objected President William Ruto as the duly elected Head of State.

Cherera resigned from IEBC on December 5, 2022, after she was suspended by President Ruto over her conduct in the 2022 general election.

"It is with immense woe that today I tender my resignation as commissioner and vice chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission," Cherera wrote to Ruto.

Masit on the other hand was fired by Ruto following recommendations by a tribunal that was chaired by Justice Aggrey Muchelule.

“The appointment and tenure in office of Irene Cherop Masit as a Member of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission be and is terminated with immediate effect,” Ruto said in a statement on March 1.

Former commissioners Justus Nyangaya and Francis Wanderi also resigned from the electoral commission after they were suspended.
