"Recruitment policy says that you are not supposed to join with a tattoo."

Kenyans who are stammerers and those who wear tattoos will not qualify for recruitment to the Kenya Defence Forces.

Lieutenant General Jonah Mwangi in an interview on Wednesday disclosed that they cannot recruit a stammerer because of the nature of the KDF.

"The process is very competitive and people who stammerers don't do it out of the will, but this is not a job like any other and it requires very good communication skills," Mwangi said.

Concerning Tattoo, Mwangi divulged that it is a policy at the Kenya Defence Forces that one should not have any.

He mentioned that those with tattoos won't be considered for recruitment as that is against the KDF policy.

"Recruitment policy says that you are not supposed to join with a tattoo. You are not going to be recruited if you are wearing a tattoo," he stated.

"Character counts in recruitment in the sense that if you are not a person of character, if you have criminal records, then that is a no-go. If you don't reveal and we know after you are recruited, you will still be chased away," he added.

However, KDF has revised the rule that barred those with coloured teeth from being recruited.

Mwangi said they assessed that in some areas people have such kinds of teeth because of the water they drink hence they had to revise the rule to accommodate those whose case is not severe.

"We realised that there are areas in this country where you have water that has fluoride content that is very high and therefore you will have people that have low to medium teeth discolouration and there are those that are severe. From low to medium that can be looked at so that the medic is able to say whether or not you are predisposed to any injury," Mwangi said on Wednesday.
