Senator Jackson Mandago was freed on Thursday last week on a Ksh 500,000 cash bail. 

The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has called on investigating agencies to thoroughly investigate Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago and other suspects over the Finland and Canada scholarship programme scandal. 

In a statement on Tuesday, August 22, ODM noted that the affected families deserve to see the rule of law upheld and justice served.

“ODM calls upon the relevant criminal justice agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the truth and bring justice to the victims. It is imperative that the perpetrators of this deceitful scheme, including former Governor Jackson Mandago, be held accountable for their actions. The affected families are not only deserving of restitution but also desire to see the rule of law upheld and justice served,” read the statement in part. 

The opposition party pointed out that the Uasin Gishu scholarship scandal has exposed the vulnerabilities within the system that allow unscrupulous individuals to exploit the aspirations of innocent citizens for personal gain.

This comes days after Senator Mandago was arrested and arraigned in Court over the scandal. The UDA senator was however freed on a Ksh 500,000 bail or an alternative bond of Sh2 million.

Mandago was released after the plea-taking session failed to take off after the Judge said it will not happen when the first accused person Joseph Maritim is on the run.

The court ruled that the case will be on hold until Maritim is arrested and charged alongside Mandago, Joshua Lelei and Mishack Rono.

President Ruto on Wednesday, August 16 fired a warning shot at those who embezzled money contributed to pursue education in Finland and Canada.

"Kuna wazazi walitoa pesa na pesa yao haijulikani iko wapi. Kama kuna mtu alikula hiyo pesa, ajipange kulipa mapema ama ataingia mashakani. Hakuna maneno ya kubembelezana kwa pesa ya mtu yenye aliuza ng'ombe ama shamba. Lazima arudishiwe pesa yake," President Ruto stated.
