“I have heard some people saying that President William Ruto's government is not obeying court orders. There is not even one, which has not been obeyed."

Attorney General Justin Muturi has dismissed claims that the Kenya Kwanza government is not following orders issued by courts.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 22 at a burial in Mbeere North, Embu County, Muturi stated that President William Ruto's administration has been obeying all the court orders despite not agreeing to some judgments.

“I have heard some people saying that President William Ruto's government is not obeying court orders. There is not even one, which has not been obeyed. Even when we disagree and don’t like those judgements we obey the court orders. We have been obeying all the orders because we must promote constitutionalism in the country,” the AG stated.

The former National Assembly Speaker at the same time urged leaders to stop politicking and serve their electorate.

His remarks come weeks after the High Court summoned Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Director General Daniel Kiptoo for disobeying court orders suspending the Finance Act 2023 and implementing the fuel levy.

The court issued the summon on August 7 after Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah sued the EPRA boss for court contempt.

EPRA had increased fuel prices to align with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023 despite Justice Mugure Thande suspending the implementation of the Act.

The orders were however lifted by the Court of Appeal on July 28 after Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndungú filed an appeal.
