The UDA Women Rep claimed that the attack was planned by a senior politician. 

Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina is nursing injuries after she was attacked by goons at her function in Kerugoya town on Tuesday, August 22. 

In a video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the Woman Rep escaped on foot before being ferried to the Kerugoya Hospital for medical attention.  

Locals who had come to attend the event were seen running away even as the police intervened to calm the situation.

Speaking to the media after the incident, Maina said that everything was going on smoothly in the event until a group of youth on motorbikes invaded the function and attacked her.

She claimed that the hired goons attacked women and disabled people who had come to her function.

Maina however vowed to continue to defend the people of Kirinyaga saying she won’t be intimidated by the goons.

"A group of young people came on motorcycles, and they are people I know. I have shed blood, but I must advocate for the people of Kirinyaga. I will not leave Kirinyaga, I have been elected here, and I must fight for the people of Kirinyaga to get their right to water,” she stated.

The UDA Women Rep noted that the attack was planned by a politician in the county to frustrate her political moves.

Maina was in the company of Baragwi MCA David Mathenge during the incident.
