Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has weighed in on the arrest of Kakamega former Governor Wycliffe Oparanya by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 23, Khalwale stated that the former county boss will be headed to court over a number of graft scandals during his tenure.

“Oparanya is headed to court! With bated breath, Kakamega is keyed up on the fate of multimillion scandals at Bukhungu Stadium, Itumbeni dairy plant, County Referral Hospital, Shiamakhubu Hosp, non-existent Imatala Tea Factory, & the unpaid MSC farmers Ksh 200m,” he stated.

Oparanya was arrested on Wednesday at noon alongside his two wives to answer questions related to graft.

"They were arrested over corruption and economic crimes committed during his tenure as Kakamega Governor. They are currently before detectives at EACC Integrity Centre Police Station, Nairobi," a source told Nairobi Leo.

Orange Democratic Party (ODM) in a statement earlier said no information has been provided on why the former Kakamega Governor was arrested.

“Our DPL Wycliffe Oparanya has been arrested by officers from the DCI Kenya. Oparanya together with his wife Madam Priscillah are currently at the EACC Kenya offices at Integrity Centre. No information has been given as to why they have been arrested & why they are being questioned,” ODM stated.

A recent report released by the EACC indicated that there was a planned prosecution of high-profile people including a sitting Governor, two former Governors, and 1 former PS in former president Uhuru Kenyatta's regime.
