Two Police Officers have been killed and several others injured in Mandera following an attack staged by suspected al-Shabaab militia.

The officers were on routine patrol when their vehicle ran over an improvised explosive device at Ledhi Sub Location.

Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) in a statement condemned the attack.

"At the onset, the Authority sends condolences to the Inspector General of Police, members of the National Police Service, and the families and friends of the fallen heroes. IPOA also wishes for quick restoration of health for the officers who were injured in the attack," IPOA chairperson Anne Makori said in a statement.

IPOA further expressed confidence in the National Police Service in ensuring the criminal elements responsible for attacks are brought to book

"The Authority believes in the determination and unparalleled capabilities of the National Police Service to pursue and bring to justice all criminal elements who may be hellbent on bringing instability to the country," Makori further said.
