The operation comes barely a week after several police officers were injured after their vehicle ran over an IED device.

A multi-agency team on Tuesday killed four suspected al-Shabaab militias in an attack that occurred in Fafi, Garissa County.

The ambush attack saw the agencies recover Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) making materials, medicine and other assorted items.

Security officers say the operation that left the militias dead thwarted a planned attack in the Kenyan territory.

The operation comes barely a week after suspected al-Shabaab militia mounted an IED device on a road in Lamu County.

KDF officers on Patrol ran over the device leaving several police officers injured. It is also believed that several KDF officers died even though the authorities did not speak about it.

KDF condemned the tragedy and asked members of the public to cooperate with security agencies in exposing the criminal elements who are behind such attacks.

"KDF condemns the criminals who disrupt movement and sabotage socio-economic stability in the area. Further, KDF calls upon the residents to share information with the security agencies on these criminal elements who lurk in their communities," KDF said in a statement.

Lamu and Garissa counties have been key operational areas of the al-Shabaab militia which have been terrorising residents and staging attacks against the police.

Such attacks have left several people dead including police officers.

These attacks have left schools closed and non-local teachers opting to vacate the place for safety reasons.

The Kenyan forces have however intensified more patrols even as the government vows to crush the terror group.

The al-Shabaab militia are believed to have secured Boni forest as their hideout and operational area.
