Waiguru was elected on Monday in the polls conducted for the Executive and Technical Committee Chairs.


Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has been re-elected the chairperson of the Council of Governors in an election held on Monday. 

The elections were conducted during a full Council meeting.  

Waiguru, who is serving a second term as governor, was first elected the chair of the council in an election held last year.

She succeeded former Embu Governor Martin Wambora whose term as governor ended after the 2022 General Elections. 

The previous CoG chairpersons in Kenya's history are Bomet's Isaac Ruto (2013-2015), Meru's Peter Munya (2015-2017), Turkana's Josphat Nanok (2017-2019), Kakamega's Wycliffe Oparanya (2019-2021) and Wambora (2021-2022).

The Monday polls were conducted for the Executive and Technical Committee Chairs. 

Waiguru will still be deputized by Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi who also retained his seat.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang will also continue serving as CoG whip.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa will be the chair of the Finance Committee a position he has held in the past year.

Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime has been tasked to chair the Water Committee.

Kisumu governor Anyang Nyongo will be in charge of Lands while Bungoma's Kenneth Lusaka will be in charge of Agriculture.
