Former CS Najib Balala Lands New International Job

Former Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala has been appointed as a Tourism Advisor by Tony Blair Institute (TBI).

In a statement via his X account on Friday October 6, Balala said he will be part of a global team of strategists, policy experts and delivery practitioners that will work with political leaders and government to drive change across the world.

“Honored to have been appointed by Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) as a Tourism Advisor part of a global team of political strategists, policy experts, delivery practitioners who work with governments and political leaders around the world to drive change,” Balala stated. 

He served in the previous government under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Cabinet Secretary for Mining between 2013 and 2015 before he was moved to the Tourism Ministry in June 2015 and served in the position until October 2022.

After exiting the cabinet, Balala was appointed as the vice president of Fauna and Flora International (FFI), an international NGO dedicated to protecting threatened wildlife and habitats.

The former Mvita MP is among a section of former CSs who landed new jobs since exiting the government.

Joe Mucheru who served as the ICT Cabinet Secretary during Uhuru's tenure was in January appointed as the global president of London-based fintech company Jumo.

Former Public Service CS Margaret Kobia in February this year was appointed as an adjunct research professor at the University of Nairobi. The former CS also serves as chancellor of St Paul’s University and a trustee of the University of Nairobi (UoN) Foundation.

Former Education CS the late Prof George Magoha had joined the Maseno University's School of Medicine as a lecturer but passed away weeks later.
