“All candidates aspiring to be leaders in our party are going to have a free and fair election come December 9."

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malalah has assured  UDA members that the party will hold free and fair grassroots elections on December 9, 2023.

This is after Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale raised concern about the appointment of regional and county managers ahead of the elections.

Speaking on Thursday, October 12 at the Bomas of Kenya, Malalah asked the leaders to cast their fears away saying there will be no favoritism.

“I want to assure all our party members that this election is going to be free and fair, let them cast fears away that this election is going to be interfered with or it is going to have some level of favoritism in terms of implementation

“All candidates aspiring to be leaders in our party are going to have a free and fair election come December 9,” Malalah stated.

The UDA SG went on to say the grassroots election will be conducted digitally adding that the party has already procured 27,500 gadgets that will be used in the voting process.

“We are going to have a digitalized way of voting and we have so far procured almost 27500 gadgets that are going to be used in every polling center in this country therefore we are going to the second phase to ensure the software that is going to be used is installed in all those gadgets and tested before that day,” he added.

Khalwale on Monday filed a petition at the UDA Disputes and Resolutions Committee claiming that the appointment of regional and county managers was done without any evidence of consultations with other relevant party organs.

The UDA senator also said Malalah had overstepped its mandate and that the appointments were unprocedural and tainted by open favoritism to his friends.

He requested the disciplinary committee to issue an injunction restraining Malalah from undertaking his role as the UDA Secretary General until the matter is heard and determined.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has also been opposing Malalah and calling for his removal from the party position over allegations of working with the opposition to destroy Kenya Kwanza.
