The governor revealed the stench from the over 420 bodies was affecting patients and members of the public.

Kilifi governor Gideon Mung'aro has expressed his frustration over the national government's failure to handle the human bodies extracted from the Shakahola forest.

The bodies are currently being stored in containers within the precincts of the Malindi Sub-County Hospital.

The governor revealed over 420 bodies were being held there.

Speaking in Garashi, Magarini, during the distribution of food and non-food items to the residents severely affected by the ongoing floods, Munga'ro was concerned that the stench from the containers was affecting patients and the general public.

"I have a message to the government. For the past year, we had a tragedy in Shakahola. People died, and we have two containers with 429 bodies at the Malindi hospital. Those going to the hospital are being affected by foul smell," he said.

The county boss threatened to dump the bodies in Nairobi should the relevant ministries fail to take action.

The governor faulted Interior CS Kithure Kindiki for refusing to engage him on the matter.

"I want to inform CS kindiki, that I have been looking for him without any success. By Monday, May 6, if the bodies would not have been collected, we will take them to Nairobi," he warned.
