The Ministry of Education has released the 2024 academic year term dates for pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools and teachers training colleges.
In a statement on Friday October 13, the ministry announced that pre-primary, primary and secondary schools will open for their first term on January 8, 2024 and have thirteen weeks of learning before closing on April 5, 2024.
The schools will however break for half term from February 29, 2024 to March 3, 2024.
The first term holiday will take place between April 8, 2024 and April 26, 2024 before the schools re-open for the second term on April 29, 2024.
The second term will run for fourteen weeks with half term scheduled from June 20, 2024 to June 23, 2024.

The learners will then break for the second term holiday on August 5, 2024 for another three weeks until August 25, 2024.
The third term will commence on August 26, 2024 and last for nine weeks ending on October 25, 2024.
The schools will then close to allow the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The KILEA and KPSEA exams will be conducted from October 28, 2024 to October 31, 2024 after which the KCSE exams will be conducted from November 4, 2024 to November 22, 2024.
The third term holiday will last for ten weeks running from October 28 to January 3, 2025.
Meanwhile, Teachers training colleges will open for the first term on January 8, 2024 for thirteen weeks and close on April 5, 2024 for three weeks.
They will resume for their term two on April 29, 2024 and run until August 2, 2024. The August holiday will thereafter run from August 5, 2024 to August 30, 2024.
The third term will take place for eleven weeks, between August 26, 2024 and November 8,2024 before breaking for the December holiday from November 11 to January 3, 2025.
