Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have recovered a consignment of Cannabis Sativa in Kisii whose street value is estimated at Sh11 million.

This followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by DCI sleuths supported by their general duty counterparts in Kisii County.

According to a DCI statement,  a contingent of police officers on patrol spotted a white Land Cruiser Prado while on patrol during which it was suspected that it was ferrying suspicious commodities.

Sacks of Bhang seized during the operation.

"The officers signalled the driver of the vehicle to stop but he defied the orders and sped off at breakneck speed and upon reaching the Magena area, he made a quick U-turn back towards Kanyenye," the DCI said.

"When realized that he was being trailed by our men, he abandoned the vehicle within the Metembe area and escaped on foot."

The detectives towed the vehicles to Kenyeye Police Station and a detailed search was conducted.

During the search, six sacks and fifteen bales of leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa all weighing 379Kgs were recovered.

"The illegal consignment together with the vehicle were all placed in police custody pending further investigations," DCI said.
