"You want us to be pretending to engage in some dialogue in Bomas and yet you are frustrating one of the cardinal issues."

The Azimio la Umoja team has threatened to scatter the bipartisan talks retreat in Nakuru County over the National Assembly Deputy Minority Whip issue which has been contested for months.

The opposition coalition is accusing National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula of delaying the effecting of Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje as the Deputy Minority Whip in replace of Nominated MP Sabina Chege.

Speaking on Saturday, October 21, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi said the coalition will not engage in talks with the government yet one of their principal issues is being frustrated.

“You want us to be pretending to engage in some dialogue in Bomas and yet you are frustrating one of the cardinal issues that are under dialogue which is interference of political parties and multi-party democracy,” said Wandayi.

This comes after the Kiambu High Court dismissed Chege’s appeal challenging the Azimio coalition’s decision to remove her from the National Assembly Deputy Minority Whip position.

Justice Dora Chepkwony in her ruling directed Chege to launch her complaint in a proper forum.

She noted that the nominated MP had not exhausted all the avenues in resolving the leadership wrangles pitting her and Azimio.

“The petitioner had not exhausted all the available alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms as provided under the Political Parties Act and hence the court did not have the jurisdiction to hear and determine the petition,” Justice Chepkwony ruled.
