KeNHA Director General Kung'u Ndung'u announced the planned closure in a notice on Friday.

Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of the Nairobi Southern Bypass.

KeNHA Director General Kung'u Ndung'u announced the planned closure in a notice on Friday.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHa wishes to notify members of the public that there will be a temporary closure of Nairobi Southern a bypass from Ole Serni interchange to Kikuyu Town on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from midnight to Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 2 pm," KeNHA Director General Ndung'u said in a notice.

The closure is to allow for the 2023 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon to take place.

Ndungú advised motorists to use alternative roads as guided.

"Motorists are advised to use Mombasa Road (A8) from Ole Sereni Interchange, through Uhuru Highway and vice versa as the alternative route," he said.

All road users are further advised to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic marshalls and police.

The Nairobi Marathon is a key platform to nurture upcoming Kenyan athletes and celebrate Kenya as the home of long-distance international athletes.

It is Kenya’s only marathon that has the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) recognitions.

It is also billed as the only marathon held in the capital city with international prestige.
