Eight people are said to have died on the spot while five others are in hospital in critical condition.


At least eight people have died in a Monday morning accident involving a lorry and a matatu along the Nakuru-Eldoret Highway accident. 

The incident is said to have happened at about 3.30 a.m. The accident occurred at the Ngata stretch. 

Reports indicate that a 14-seater matatu heading to Nakuru collided head-on with a truck that was moving to the Eldoret side. 

Rift Valley regional police commander Tom Odera told the media that the collision occurred after the lorry driver veered off his lane during which he collided with the Matatu.

Police say the death toll is likely to increase.

Those injured were rushed to the Nakuru Level 6 Hospital.

The accident comes at a time when the country is staring at a festive season that is often characterized by a series of accidents.
