The Kenya Railways on Tuesday morning suspended train services to Nairobi Central Station from Lukenya and Syokimau stations.

The suspension of the services is owing to the derailment in Imara Daima.

Kenya Railways is in the process of rectifying the hitch to enable the resumption of services.

"This morning the train to Nairobi Central Station from Lukenya and Syokimau stations will not run. This is due to a blockage on the line as a result of a derailment at Imara Daima," Kenya Railways said.

"Our technical team is working to restore the derailed train."

The cause of derailment was revealed but heavy rains pounding the country have caused major disruptions of transport services.

The disruption has affected both road and railway transport services although the former has been hit harder.

"Passengers are advised to bear with us and use alternative means. We apologize for the inconvenience caused," Kenya Railways added.

The service is expected to resume on Tuesday evening. Other routes are however operational as normal.
