Drama was witnessed in the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 5 after Members of Parliament (MPs) walked out of the National Assembly demanding the release of the National Government Constituency Development Funds (NG-CDF). 

The chaos began when National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah told the lawmakers to wait until Thursday before Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u returns to the country to address the issue.  

However, MPs disagreed with Ichung'wah as the House is scheduled to go on recess from Thursday this week. 

The MPs then walked out of the house heckling Ichung'wah as he addressed the assembly.  

Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei was then forced to adjourn the afternoon session for lack of a quorum.

In a video seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the lawmakers chanted ‘no CDF no Parliament’ outside the National Assembly building.


Speaking during the drama, Nyando MP Jared Okello said they have suspended all sittings until the National Treasury disburses the funds to constituencies.

He claimed that the government is always supporting executive programs which have in turn affected the disbursement of CDF.

“The government is always supporting their executive programs to the detriment of CDF so what we are saying is that we have suspended all sittings and all government businesses until CDF is expended to our schools.

“In January new students are joining form one, there are those who are continuing with high school so we are saying they must provide money now and not later,” Okello stated.
