Before Gachagua stepped on stage, several leaders including Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku and Murkomen had spoken.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua broke protocol during the launch of the Riruta-Ngong Railway line project which was graced by President William Ruto.

Gachagua was invited on stage to give his remarks by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. However, instead of giving his sentiments, the second in command defied the order of speaking at public events defined by ranks.

Gachagua decided to invite Lang'ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwour popularly known as Jalang'o, who is of a lower rank compared to the Governor and the CS.

Defending his decision, Gachagua noted that the new railway line was passing through Karen and the people deserved to be heard.

"Before I say anything to welcome you the President, let MP Jalang'o say something," Gachagua announced amid loud cheers from the crowd.

Addressing the residents, Jalang'o implored the President to institute comprehensive public participation on the railway line.

"I want the contractor and the whole team to have continuous public participation with Karen residents who are more concerned about their land among other issues," Jalang'o stated.

Gachagua further broke the protocol by inviting Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie who he indicated was also a beneficiary of the project.

Before Gachagua stepped on stage, several leaders including Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku and Murkomen had spoken.

The way protocol dictates, Gachagua was only allowed to speak and then invite the Head of State. But he violated the rule by inviting MPs who are considered junior in rank compared to the area Governor and even the Transport Cabinet Secretary.

Nonetheless, Gachagua directed the Chinese contractors working on the project to prioritise giving locals jobs in the construction of the railway line.

He indicated that the project will spur development and ease the movement of goods and passengers in the region.
