The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has called on motorists using the Rironi-Mai Mahiu Road to be careful after a truck broke down causing a traffic snarl-up.

In a statement on Friday, December 14, KeNHA said the truck developed mechanical issues along the escarpment about ten kilometers from Rironi towards Mahi Mahiu.

“Motorists are advised of a traffic snarl-up along the Escarpment Route (Rironi - Mai Mahiu), approximately 10 kilometers from Rironi towards Mai Mahiu after a truck experienced mechanical issues,” read the statement in part.

KeNHA noted that contractors and traffic police officers have been deployed to the site to control traffic.

“KeNHA through her Performance Based Contractor is working closely with the traffic police to manage and control the traffic flow. The Authority urges motorists to exercise caution and patience while driving through this section,” the authority stated.

“KeNHA appreciates your cooperation as the Authority works towards resolving this issue promptly. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.”

The statement comes after motorists stuck on the stretch for more than eight hours on Thursday evening.

This is the second time in a week that motorists plying the Rironi Mahi Mahiu Road have experienced huge traffic.

On Friday last week, motorists experienced a snarl-up after a trailer crashed and blocked traffic on the road.
