The gang of four was driving a small car which was reported to have been used as an escape plan after robbing unsuspecting motorists.

Police collaborating with officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) busted a highway robbery syndicate in a daring operation conducted on Tuesday, December 19. 

According to a report filed by the National Police Service, the gang was intercepted at Sopel along Lodwar -Kitale Highway.

The gang of four was driving a small car which was reported to have been used as an escape plan after robbing unsuspecting motorists.

"Today, December 19, 2023, NPS Officers based in Lodwar Police Station and their DCI colleagues intercepted a get away vehicle at Sopel along Lodwar -Kitale Highway and arrested the 4 occupants, namely; Stephen Kamire, Erick Odhiambo, Raphael Ndeda Otieno, and Emmanuel Okoth," police statement read in part.

In the get away car, DCI officers recovered Ksh300,000 which is believed to have been stolen from a parked car along the highway.

Seven mobile phones were also seized from the suspects which police believe are used to carry out their highway robbery operations.

"Also recovered from the vehicle KDJ 496 Toyota Ractus, was Ksh. 300,000/=, 4 smartphones, 8 SIM cards, and 3 button phones.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the money was stolen from a parked car," police added.

Following their arrest, police extended the operation to nab other suspects believed to be attacking motorists and robbing them, especially during this festive season.

Moreover, DCI launched further investigations before arranging the suspects in court.
