According to family members who spoke to a section of the press, two of the victims were cousins

Days after four men were sprayed with a hail of 40 bullets in the Buruburu area, Nairobi, their families have come out to detail their last meetings and plans.

According to family members who spoke to a section of the press, two of the victims were cousins named Julius Mwangi and Brian Mwangi.

They stated that the two were known for selling second-hand clothes (mitumba) and the other one was a scrap metal dealer. Both their businesses were based in the Eastlands area.

Before they were gunned down, one had left their home to shop for his daughter's birthday present.

"We stayed with him the whole day before he told me that he wanted to get gifts for her daughter whose birthday was slated for December 25," Brian's mother stated.

"I was shocked after learning that my son was shot at 40 times. We could not easily identify the body, but his gold teeth helped us."

According to Julius' family, the deceased who was a metal dealer had informed them that he was travelling to their rural home in Gitaru that fateful day.

"We spoke during the day and he told me he was going to our rural home. So I added him some money," Julius' mother stated.

They however called for investigations to establish why their sons were murdered in Buruburu.

The bodies of the other two are yet to be identified.

Commenting on the matter, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the shooting and had not established the motive and those behind it.

“We were called by neighbours who heard the gunshots and mistook it to be fireworks only to find the bodies there,” he said.
