Kagumo town in Kirinyaga County has received a facelift from Governor Anne Waiguru's Cabro paving project in towns across the county.

According to a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday, December 27, the project has covered 10,000 square metres in Kagumo town, improving the town's aesthetics and addressing the perennial inconvenience traders and residents have had to deal with.

The initiative, completed in the last three months, has been hailed by residents as one of the most progressive development projects undertaken by the county government in the area.

It has provided adequate car parking and designated pedestrian and non-motorized routes on both sides of the road.

It also included the construction of a proper stormwater drainage system along the road to reduce flooding during the rainy season.

“Initially, there was no space for pedestrians to walk and so they competed for the road with the vehicles, especially during the rains. We can now walk safely in the improved walkways even when it is rainy,” Martim Gatimu a Kagumo resident stated.

His comments were echoed by Geoffrey Murage, a long-time resident, who noted that during the rainy season the town used to look very untidy and muddy, but now the situation has changed and it is much easier to move around the town.

Zipporah Muriithi, a resident and businesswoman in the town, also welcomed the project, pointing out that businesspeople used to suffer losses during the rainy season, but this has changed.

“The neat, well-maintained town has now encouraged local businesses to flourish, as the improved accessibility has drawn more customers to shops and establishments in the area,” she said.
