A 2-kilogram packet of fortified maize flour dropped from Ksh 182.66 to Ksh 175.89.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statics (KNBS) on Friday, December 29 released a report data showing basic commodities whose prices have fallen in December.

In the report, KNBS revealed that the average price of 1kg of mangoes dropped from Ksh 109.88 in November to 103.66 in December, a kilogram of potatoes dropped from Ksh 103.62 to Ksh 98.53 and 2 kilograms of sifted maize flour declined from Ksh 161. 23 to Ksh 155.07.

The average price of a kilogram of sugar went down from 217.96 to Ksh 214. 20 while a kilogram of tomatoes dropped from Ksh 95.97 to 94.59.

Other products whose prices dropped include; cabbages (2.7%), beef (white wheat flour (0.7%), and fresh milk (0.5%).

However, the prices of carrots, kale Sukuma-wiki, mutton/goat meat, and beef with bones increased by 14.5, 6.2. 5.1 and 3.6 percent, respectively between November 2023 and December 2023.

“The Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ Index increased by 0.4 percent between November 2023 and December 2023 mainly due increase in prices of 200 kWh and 50 kWh of electricity by 1.0 percent and 1.2 percent, respectively,” KNBS stated.

Despite fuel prices going down in December, the transport price went up by 0.5 percent during the period, mainly due to an increase in country bus fares for some routes.
