“We call upon all members of the Law Society of Kenya starting next week to don purple ribbons throughout the week and join in peaceful protests countrywide."

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called on its members to protest against President Ruto’s attack on the Judiciary next week.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, January 3, LSK Vice President Faith Odhiambo asked LSK members to don purple ribbons to show solidarity with the Judiciary and condemn the Head of State.

“We call upon all members of the Law Society of Kenya starting next week to don purple ribbons throughout the week and join in peaceful protests countrywide,” said Odhiambo.

She added, “This will be organized by the Law Society and we will communicate working hand in hand with our branches that we support the rule of law and also in solidarity with the Judiciary. We must not allow our constitution to suffer.”

This comes after the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) also criticized President Ruto for attacking the Judiciary.

President William Ruto speaking on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

KMJA mentioned that attacking the Judiciary for that which it is mandated to do by the Constitution is contemptuous and an abuse of the Constitution and the people of Kenya.

“The Judges and Judicial Officers assure all Kenyans that they shall continue to remain faithful to their oaths of office while performing the sacred duty of interpreting, applying and enforcing the law,” KMJA stated.

The association further called on Kenyans to stand up and protect the Constitution and the independence of the Judiciary.

“Through the Judiciary, disputes are resolved, laws are interpreted, and justice is administered. Any assault on the Judiciary or attempts to undermine its integrity can heavily impact our democracy,” KMJA added.

President Ruto on Tuesday accused some Judicial officials of being beneficiaries of graft and sabotaging his legacy projects, Universal Health Care and Affordable Housing.

“Our Judiciary, we respect you but judicial impunity by corrupt judicial officers must stop in Kenya...we’ll stop it and whatever it takes,” said Ruto.
