"Five other suspects are still at large and are wanted by the DCI to answer to their crimes that have caused untold physical and emotional suffering to fellow Kenyans," DCI indicated.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has released the list of five suspects wanted in connection with the Embakasi explosion that left six people dead, injured over 270 others, and left hundreds displaced.

In a statement dated Tuesday, February 6, DCI indicated the said individual had not surrendered for questioning despite being linked to the case.

The five include Stephen Kilonzo (the site manager) and Ann Kabiri Mirungi, Lynette Cheruyoit, who are officials from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA).

Two drivers, Robert Gitau and Abraham Mwangi, who are believed to have driven the lorry to the accident scene, are also on the wanted list released by DCI.

"Five other suspects are still at large and are wanted by the DCI to answer to their crimes that have caused untold physical and emotional suffering to fellow Kenyans," DCI indicated.

"Should you have information on the whereabouts of any of the suspects, please Fichua kwa DCI by calling our toll-free hotline 0800722203 or report at any police station," the detectives appealed.

The detectives however did not reveal the identity of the fifth suspect.

However, DCI made a breakthrough in the case by arresting the main suspect Derrick Kimathi who is believed to have rented the premises in Embakasi.

Moreover, DCI arrested three NEMA officials who are believed to have authorised the operation of the LPG plant within a residential area. They include David Ongare (Director of Environment Compliance), Joseph Makau (Head of Environmental Impact Assessment), and Mirrian Kioko.

"The DCI continues to condole with the families of those who lost their dear lives, and wishes for the quick recovery of those recuperating in various health facilities," DCI wrote.

The arrests followed direct orders from President William Ruto who condemned the incident and called for swift action.
