“When you say that "it won't happen" does it mean that you intend to disrupt it? Is this not tantamount to abuse of your office CS given that Arts is not your docket?"

Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua on Tuesday, February 13 clashed with Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria over his remarks on the MCSK board.

In a statement via X, Kuria claimed that the MCSK board members were planning to extend their term limit irregularly in a special general meeting slated for Friday, February 16, 2024.

CS Kuria opposed the alleged extension saying it is unacceptable, vowing to stop it.

“Music Copyright Society of Kenya Board has been in office for the last 6 years. They want to extend their term irregularly in a Specia General Meeting Friday 16th. This is simply not acceptable and it will not pass. Mambo ni matatu. Even stealing has a term limit,” said Kuria.

Mutua in a response said the special meeting is meant to ratify the MCSK elections slated for April.

The MCSK boss noted that the meeting is a legal requirement in line with the Companies Act, 2015 and that the society published a notice in the dailies for members to prepare for the same.

Mutua slammed CS Kuria over his remarks on the board while questioning why he is interested in MCSK.

“When you say that "it won't happen" does it mean that you intend to disrupt it? Is this not tantamount to abuse of your office CS given that Arts is not your docket? You see neither a musician nor a member of MCSK. What's your interest in a private company's AGM?” Mutua posed.

This comes a day after CS Kuria announced that the government is planning to pay artists through the eCitizen platform.

Gender CS Aisha Jumwa disagreed with the former Gatundu South MP saying she is in charge of issues relating to royalties to musicians and artists.
