The government has deployed a special security team to Kisii County.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has ordered the deployment of a special security team to Kisii County.

In a statement on Friday, March 1, CS Kindiki said the special team will investigate recent criminal incidents witnessed in the county and bring to account the organizers, financiers, and perpetrators of the violence.

Kindiki who held a morning briefing with County, Sub-County, and Divisional security heads from the entire Kisii County also announced that the government has made changes in security personnel.

“The Government has made personnel changes and a special team has been deployed to investigate and bring to account, organizers, financiers, and perpetrators of violent criminal incidents recently witnessed in parts of Kisii County,” said Kindiki.

The Interior CS further directed the security agencies in Kisii County to prioritize preventive security and enforce the law firmly without taking political sides.

“Security agencies are directed to prioritize preventive security and enforce the law firmly and without regard to the political affiliation or social rank of lawbreakers,” Kindiki added.

He also held a routine security performance review meeting with County, Sub-County, and Divisional security heads from various agencies in Nyamira County.

Kindiki mentioned that security managers across the country have been given performance targets to meet, and periodic reviews will be carried out to ensure continuous upgrading of service delivery.

Kisii County has been on the spot in recent weeks over clashes between Governor Simba Arati’s supporters and South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro.

In January the supporters of the two politicians clashed at a function in South Mugirango leaving at least four people injured and several vehicles destroyed.
