Following the closure, KeNHA advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid facing inconveniences.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of Uhuru Highway

In a notice, KeNHA noted that the section of the Highway will be closed from 11.00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, to Midnight on Sunday, March 10. 

The closure is meant to pave the way for maintenance works to be undertaken at that section of the highway

Due to the closure, traffic flow between Harry Thuku Road and University Way will be disrupted,

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the Public that there will be a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) between Harry Thuku Road and University Way (Mombasa Bound) from 11.00 pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, to Midnight on Sunday, March 10, 2024. This is to allow for highway maintenance works at this section," KeNHA statement read in part

Following the closure, KeNHA advised motorists to use alternative routes to avoid facing inconveniences.

"All motorists accessing Uhuru Highway (A8) from Kenyatta Avenue will use alternative routes such as Harry Thuku Road and University Way."

Motorists using this road are advised to approach the affected section with caution and follow traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be directed by Police and Traffic Marshall on site.

The maintenance works include unclogging the drainage system in preparation of the heavy rains, installing street lighting system, and fixing some sections of the road which was worn out and with potholes.
