The detectives questioned the explanation by the school that the pupil fell off a storey building of the school in Buruburu.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have taken over the probe into the mysterious death of a pupil at Joy Garden School in Nairobi's Buruburu area.

The 13-year-old's body was found lying dead on a balcony in the school on Friday, March 8, pointing to a possible murder.

The school Director, Ms Jane Kimani, informed the police that the class eight pupil at the boarding institution was discovered missing at 6.30pm when she did not show up for supper.

A search for her would then be mounted, leading to her lifeless body on a first-floor balcony outside the Director's office.

The school's director and staff were booked into the Buruburu Police Station to aid in investigations.

Officers from the Buruburu Police Station who showed up at the scene established that the injuries on the body were not consistent with a fall from a higher floor, contradicting the management's explanation of a fall.

Four people, including the school's director, were arrested to aid in investigations.

Those in police custody include James Mungai, the school's head teacher, Caroline Matheka, the school's accountant and one Anthony Kimani.

The pupil's body was booked into the Mama Lucy Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy as investigations continued.
