The suspects were trafficking the bhang using a Land Cruiser Prado.

Police Officers in Migori County have arrested two suspects trafficking 300kgs of bhang worth Sh 9 million from Tanzania.

In a statement on Monday, March 18, DCI said the two suspects Daniel Okoth and Erick Ombima in the company of another man were sneaking the bhang using a Land Cruiser Prado on the assumption they would get through police roadblocks with ease.

According to the DCI, the trio were untrusted to chauffer the bhang to Kenya through the Nyametaburo route and later join the Isebania - Migori highway at Mabera.

“Confident of a successful mission, the trio who drove at breakneck speed approached the Karamu Bridge area, unaware that the In-charge of Isebania Police Station who was privy to the itinerary had led his troops in laying an ambush,” said the DCI.

While approaching the roadblock, the driver of the vehicle opted to drive past the officers nearly running over one of them but the journey was prematurely terminated after the officers fired shots.

Okoth and Obima were arrested in the incident while one male occupant disappeared into the tickets.

“Obima and their drug haul stuffed in the KCL 532E Prado were rounded up. The prohibited cargo numbered 6 gunny bags,” DCI stated.

The suspects have been taken to Isebania Police Station as the pursuit of the third suspect is ongoing.

“Members of the public are encouraged to continue sharing information on traffickers, and to disengage from any drug-related activities or trade to avoid confrontations with the law,” DCI added.
